The interim president of Venezuela, (PSUV, left), said on Wednesday night (June 24, 2026) that they left at least 32 dead and more than 700 injured. According to her, the balance does not yet include possible victims from La Guaira, a coastal state neighboring Caracas and identified by the government as the most affected area. The USGS (United States Geological Survey) estimates the probability that the death toll will range from 10,000 to 100,000 at 44%.
The information updates the initial scenario of the tremors, of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, recorded less than 1 minute apart. Initially, Venezuelan authorities reported collapsed buildings in Caracas and destroyed houses, but had not yet presented the number of victims.
Delcy said that La Guaira had “dozens of collapsed buildings” and was classified by the government as “disaster zone”. “We are currently in very difficult rescue work to save the lives that God allows us to save. It is a true tragedy”he declared.

Delcy announced the suspension of classes and non-essential public service activities. He said that the government made hotels and shelters available to people who lost their homes or had their properties compromised by the earthquakes.
The Venezuelan leader advised residents to use the VenApp platform to report damage to properties and report disappearances of family or friends.
Delcy stated that Venezuela will receive rescue teams from the United States, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico and Qatar. According to her, China, Brazil and Caribbean countries also offered humanitarian aid to the country.
“I ask that we act in national unity, calmly. And that we know that, united, we will overcome this tragedy”declared Delcy. “A tragedy that today mourns many Venezuelan families, but Venezuela is also receiving love from the people of the world.”
The tremors hit the central region of Venezuela and caused damage in Caracas, Trujillo, Carabobo, Aragua, Miranda and La Guaira. Videos posted on social media show collapses, clouds of dust and people leaving buildings after the shocks.
