The Institute for the Development of Journalism (Projor) announced the seventh edition of , a survey on local journalism that will map journalistic outlets in Brazil’s 5,570 municipalities. The results will be released in July 2025.
The objective is to monitor vehicle closures and highlight new initiatives that have emerged since the sixth edition, held in 2023.
recorded a reduction of 8.6% (256 municipalities) in the total of Still, 2,712 municipalities – home to 26.7 million Brazilians – remained without access to news about the city where they live.
The project is sponsored by and has institutional support from the Brazilian Society of Interdisciplinary Communication Studies (Intercom), the Brazilian Association of Journalism Education (Abej) and the Brazilian Association of Journalism Researchers (SBPJor).
The data organization will be carried out by Volt Data Lab, a data journalism agency led by journalist Sérgio Spagnuolo. The research coordination will be carried out by journalist Sérgio Lüdtke, with researchers representing each region: Angela Werdemberg (center-west), Dubes Sônego (southeast), Jéssica Botelho (north), Mariama Correia (northeast) and Marcelo Fontoura (south).
The previous edition had the collaboration of 303 volunteers, who updated a database with information from 14,444 organizations. Those interested in collaborating with the research can register by filling out
