Are you planning on having pasta for lunch? Don’t know how to estimate the quantity? This tool will settle your work…
Spaghetti is a classic. They’re relatively cheap and you can mix in anything from grated cheese to leftovers from the fridge. “And if there’s nothing left, we end up with the obligatory version of spaghetti with ketchup and edamame sprinkles,” says Mrs. Eliška, who liked pasta especially in the lean days before payday. Not only do they feed hungry necks, but children love them and don’t complain about not being hungry…
The author of the video, The Doctors, will advise you on other tricks when dispensing spaghetti. More on the YouTube.com channel.
How many spaghetti per serving
However, it is often difficult to estimate the correct amount when cooking spaghetti. Sometimes you cook more of them, sometimes less and you have to finish the portions, which takes time, energy and a bit of nerves… “Spaghetti – and pasta in general – is a dish that is difficult to reheat, that’s why it’s best fresh,” says Eliška, adding that that’s why her “spaghetti leftovers” often end up in the dog bowl or straight into the trash. And that’s a shame. The truth is that other Czech women who do not know how to handle a portion of pasta report the same problem. Are you among them? Then maybe this trick will make your life easier…
Unnecessary excesses
According to experts, one portion corresponds to 210 g of cooked spaghetti, which in its raw state corresponds to 70 g of dried pasta. “When you prepare spaghetti at home, the portions are much larger than those served in restaurants,” says the chef, adding that spaghetti triples its weight when cooked. Therefore, appearances are often deceiving and unplanned surpluses arise!
Dosing of PET bottles
If you want to avoid this waste, you can use some of the tools to estimate the right amount per person. “Some pasta scoops have a round center. If you fill it with spaghetti, you have enough for one serving,” advises the chef. Unfortunately, not all tools have this convenience, so you can also use other tools, such as PET bottles. How to do it: Cut off the neck and the amount of spaghetti that fits in the hole is just the amount you need for one plate!
Estimate by fingers
Another aid when estimating a portion of spaghetti can be your hand. All you have to do is connect your thumb with your index finger so that it “rests” on the thumb joint from the inside. You will have an opening through which you can push the required amount of pasta for one. If you don’t like such treats, weigh the desired amount on a kitchen scale or get a spaghetti measuring cup, which will select the right number of spaghetti for one, two, three or four servings!
