The expectation is that the president will be able to leave the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) this Thursday (12); doctors indicate that the PT member may remain in the hospital until Monday
On Thursday morning (12), the president underwent surgery at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital, in . The intervention, which lasted less than an hour, was carried out successfully, as reported by the responsible cardiologist, Dr. Roberto Kalil. After the procedure, the president was already awake and talking, according to preliminary information released by the medical team.
The procedure performed was a femoral catheterization, necessary to prevent further bleeding in Lula’s head, after an intracranial catheter had previously been detected. The hemorrhage was discovered when the president began to feel unwell, experiencing flu-like symptoms and headaches. These symptoms led to an MRI, which revealed the need for urgent medical intervention. Lula was then transferred from Brasília to São Paulo, where he underwent drainage for the hemorrhage.
The incident that resulted in the hemorrhage occurred on October 19, when Lula slipped in the bathroom of the Palácio da Alvorada, which caused an injury to the back of his head that required five stitches. This Thursday’s procedure was considered simple and without major risks, and was already planned by the medical team, which monitored the evolution of the president’s health after the first surgery.
The expectation is that, after the procedure, Lula will be able to leave the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) this Thursday (12). Doctors indicate that the president may remain in the hospital until Monday, when he must return to Brasília. They also claim that Lula will be able to resume his normal activities, including plane travel, which were restricted after the initial accident.
