New procedure minimizes risks, says Lula’s doctor – 12/11/2024 – Power

Roberto Kalil Filho, doctor from (), stated in an interview this Wednesday (11) that the new procedure to be carried out on the president seeks to minimize the risk of new bleeding and is low in complexity.

He emphasized that the procedure is not a new surgery, but rather a catheterization, and that its publication in a new medical bulletin this Thursday occurred at the request of the president himself and the first lady Rosângela da Silva, known as Janja.

The president is hospitalized at Hospital Sírio-Libanês in São Paulo after undergoing emergency surgery following the discovery of intracranial hemorrhage on Tuesday (10). According to the doctors who treated him, the procedure was successful.

Although he is in the ICU (intensive care unit), there is no forecast of formal removal from the Presidency of the Republic.

“It’s a relatively simple procedure. This procedure is scheduled for tomorrow morning, we would disclose it to you in the interview tomorrow morning. However, the president and Mrs. Janja made a point of putting the procedure in the bulletin beforehand”, stated Kalil.

According to the doctor, the evolution is “extremely good”.

“As we released the bulletin in the morning and we hadn’t decided, the president himself asked for it to be released to the press.”

According to Kalil, catheterization takes around an hour and does not delay the expected discharge of a week. He said that there were no changes in Lula’s condition between the two bulletins.

Lula’s hemorrhage resulted from a hematoma formed at the Palácio da Alvorada, on October 19. On that occasion, Lula fell from a bench while cutting his nails, and had to receive stitches on the back of his head. Since then, he has had periodic follow-up exams.

According to them, the PT member arrived lucid and oriented to the hospital after feeling unwell and nausea and showing symptoms similar to those of the flu.

According to the medical team, a three-centimeter hematoma was found, located between the brain and one of the three membranes (or meninges) that surround it.

To treat the problem, a procedure was performed, which involves removing a clot through a drain placed in an open hole in the patient’s skull.

Lula will have to spend one to three days with the drain, according to doctors, and must remain in the ICU for another 48 hours as a precaution, Kalil said. “Like I said, he’s fine, he’s eating, he’s conscious, he’s normal.”
