The strike will also take place from 00:00 hours on December 24, 2024 until 24:00 hours on the same day and from 00:00 hours on December 31st until 24 hours on this last day of the year.
Workers at Portway, a handling company that provides ground handling services at airports, called a strike over the Christmas and New Year period, including a 24-hour strike on December 24th and 31st, according to a statement.
In the note released by the Democratic Union of Airport and Aviation Workers (Sindav), Union of Airport Handling Technicians (STHAA), Union of Handling, Aviation and Airport Workers (Sitava) and Union of Merchant Marine Workers, Shipping Agencies Travel, Freight Forwarding and Fisheries (Simamevip) we read that on November 8th the entities asked “the opening of a conciliation process with the services of DGERT/Ministry of Labor, the scheduling of which, regrettably, was only possible for the 18th” for reasons that they say are “unrelated to”.
In view of this situation and maintaining – they say – Portway has maintained its position until now, “there was no alternative other than to issue this advance notice of strike”.
According to the same note, the strike covers all additional work, starting at 00:00 on December 24, 2024 and until 24:00 on January 1, 2025.
The strike will also take place from 00:00 hours on December 24, 2024 until 24:00 hours on the same day and from 00:00 hours on December 31st until 24 hours on this last day of the year.
The strike will also cover the “I work on a holiday that is a normal working day”from December 24, 2024 and until January 2, 2025.
“We remember that this increase that Portway now refuses to comply with has practical effects on workers’ current base salary, but also on all the components associated with it: shift allowances, holidays, overtime, holiday and Christmas allowances, but It also has future impacts, because the negotiation basis for 2025 has to be the table published in November”, they assured.
