Paraná decides this Friday whether to outsource school management – 12/13/2024 – Panel

The Education Secretary of the , Roni Miranda, told the Panel that the ministry will decide this Friday (13) on the inclusion of another 83 schools in a , which transfers administrative management to the private sector.

The decision is controversial because, in the 83 schools, the public consultation with the community on the possibility was not completed, due to lack of a minimum quorum (50% plus one). Thus, the department itself will decide the fate of these schools.

The public consultation, carried out at the beginning of this month, covered 177 schools. Of the total, 94 provided a quorum. Of these, only 10 schools agreed to join the program.

Now, the secretariat will analyze whether it can include the 83 where there was no quorum. Nine educational groups in the country have already been accredited to seek future contracts with the department.

Miranda said that one of the explanations for the low quorum was the “relentless heavy rain” that hit Paraná during the three days of the public consultation. But he does not see how to hold a new vote.

“There is no time. Classes end this Friday in the state network and then there is recess. We also need to decide this in advance so that companies can organize themselves”, he noted.

Regarding the fact that only 10, out of 94, chose to join the program, Miranda cites parents’ insecurity regarding a new project and adds the critical campaign about the program led by PT and APP-Sindicato, an entity that represents education workers in the state.

“There was a whole polarization. They ended up taking it to this sphere of ‘us against them’ and that interfered,” said Miranda.

APP-Sindicato has asked the state government so that, in schools where there is no quorum, the program is not adopted.
