Mourão comes out in defense of Braga Netto and says that prison is a violation of legal standards

For the senator, who was vice-president of Jair Bolsonaro, the general does not pose any risk to public order

Senator Hamilton Mourão (Republicanos-RS), former vice-president of the Jair Bolsonaro government, criticized the arrest of General Walter Braga Netto and said that it represents “a new page in the violation of legal norms to which Brazil is subjected”.

“General Braga Netto does not represent any risk to public order,” said Mourão, on platform X.

Braga Netto was arrested this Saturday morning (14) by the Federal Police, as part of the State investigation following the presidential elections. The police also carried out searches at the soldier’s home, in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro.

The Federal Police named retired general Walter Braga Netto as a central figure in the coup attempt. According to the inquiry report, the plan called “Green and Yellow Dagger” included “coercive measures” and the operational planning of actions involving Special Forces, which would have been designed to be submitted to the general. Among the actions foreseen in the plan were the murder of Lula and Alckmin, in addition to the arrest of the STF minister, Alexandre de Moraes.

“The evidence obtained throughout the investigation shows his concrete participation in acts related to the attempted coup d’état and the abolition of the democratic rule of law, including the attempt to embarrass and obstruct the present procedure”, says the PF.
