Attracting titmice is not a science, just create a place where they feel welcome. These little songbirds need three basic things: a safe haven, plenty of food and a source of water.

Build a hut that will become their home. Fix it to a tree or other solid structure, at least two meters above the ground. Chickadees like to choose quiet places where they are not disturbed by the wind or excessive human activity. Once they like the booth, you are almost guaranteed to return regularly.

In addition to the booth, it is equally important to have a feeder in the garden. Chickadees are small eaters that need a lot of energy, especially during the winter. Sunflower seeds are their favorite treat, but an even bigger trump card is unsalted lard.

Just mix it with seeds or oatmeal, form balls and hang them on tree branches or in the feeder. This simple trick can attract titmouses by the dozen because the lard will give them the energy they need to survive the cold days.

Even in winter, birds need to drink and clean their feathers. All you need is a shallow bowl in a sheltered place that you will check regularly so it doesn’t freeze. The combination of food, water and a safe place from your garden will create an ideal refuge not only for titmouses, but also for other bird visitors. Your garden will come to life with a cheerful bird concert that will make your day more pleasant.
