Tołpygaalso known as “silver carp”, is a freshwater fish from Asia, which is also bred in Poland. It turns out that few people have heard of it, which is a pity because it could be great a tastier alternative to carp during Christmas Eve dinner. The meat of this fish has a characteristic taste. It is light, lean and lacks the so-called “silty taste” that often accompanies carp (this is why carp is simply unpalatable for many people).
Interestingly, silver carp contains a lot of valuable nutrients. It is an excellent source of easily digestible protein and healthy unsaturated fatty acids (omega-3), which may contribute to lowering the level of bad cholesterol. Fish contains many vitamins important for the functioning of the body (including vitamin B6, B12, D) and minerals, such as phosphorus and potassium. Therefore, it is worth including it in your diet and eating it not only during Christmas Eve dinner.
