Fruits were the items that weighed the most on the pocket, an increase of 94.25% in the period.
According to Rico, this increase can be attributed to adverse weather conditions that affect production, in addition to the increase in input prices and the growth in logistics costs.

“This can be explained by the fact that protein prices fell in 2022 and 2023 due to an increase in supply, characteristic of the livestock economic cycle,” explained the study.
It’s not just the dinner that has become more expensive, but also the Christmas basket, which has 12 items, including food and other products, such as gifts and transport.
Between 2020 and 2024, the price increased by 46.55%.
According to the survey, clothes increased in value by 33.5%, while other items that are generally also given as gifts increased.
Another factor that Rico’s study considered was the price of tickets, as families tend to get together at this time of year. In this measure, airline tickets rose 31.82% and the cost of app rides registered an increase of 19.86%.
“Some factors may explain the increase in these prices, including maintenance costs, heated demand, devaluation of our currency and fuel prices,” said Rico.
Furthermore, according to the study, if the person spent R$1,000 on Christmas costs in 2020, this year the cost would be calculated, on average, at R$1,465.50.
