After clicking on the paper clip or +, several colored symbols will appear and one of them is Location – Location, which is indicated by a marker, which is usually used to mark places on the map in Google Maps. But the advantage is that you don’t have to mark anything anywhere. Just press this icon, the map will open automatically and if you don’t have GPS on your phone, your phone will automatically notify you. Without the functioning of GPS, it is not easy to find out or share the location.

Subsequently, you will see your location on the partially blind map, and the Share current location function will appear as the first option in the menu right after the map. Then the application will ask you if you want to share the location for 15 minutes, an hour or eight hours and possibly add some text.

After clicking the arrow pointing to the right, which is “enter” or confirmation of sending in WhatsApp, this map will appear in a reduced form in the conversation with your friend. Your friend can click on it at any time and track where you are currently moving.

If you also want to see where your friend is moving, he must also share the location in the same way. Then you will see each other on the same map and it can be done the same with all participants who share the location in the same group. You will then recognize more participants by their profile photos, which will move around the map in real time.

Why isn’t location sharing via WhatsApp working?

But what if it doesn’t work even though you have GPS on? Even if the WhatsApp application is registered to your phone number, for its operation it is necessary to have the Internet, i.e. to connect to the Internet via mobile data or Wi-Fi. And that applies to both parties involved. Internet must be functional for the person who shares their location, as well as the person who tracks it.

In case you decide to stop sharing your location because, for example, you don’t need the courier to know where you’re headed, just look back at the conversation. Below the thumbnail displayed in the conversation is the Stop Sharing option outlined in red. Also, if you open the map, there will also be an option to stop sharing, and in addition, you will also find a time indication of how many minutes the location will still be shared. Also, if you turn off GPS or put your phone in flight mode, it will not be possible to share your location.

It should be added that today location sharing works in the same way via Messenger as well. However, the disadvantage is that many Internet users, and especially seniors, are not on Facebook, and it is impossible to have Messenger without a Facebook profile. WhatsApp doesn’t need anything like that, just download the app, verify the phone number with the sent code and that’s it!
