A half-buried body found in Alicante, the third violent death in the province in a week | Spain

This Tuesday, the Civil Guard investigated the discovery of a body half buried under a layer of rubble in a well, actually a very deep manhole, in the municipality of Villajoyosa (Alicante, 36,093 inhabitants). According to sources from the armed institute, no identifying feature of the deceased person can be ventured, since the body has not yet been recovered. This is the third body found in abnormal circumstances in just a week, after that of a 33-year-old man in a rural area in the same town, Villajoyosa, and that of another 39-year-old man, found in a home in Rojales ( municipality of 17,451 inhabitants), both with signs of violence. All three investigations remain open.

The sources consulted indicate that on Monday afternoon a call alerted the 112 emergency services that a body had appeared in a well in Villajoyosa, a tourist town near Benidorm. A brigade from the Altea Judicial Police went to the scene, confirming the presence of the body, of which barely any limbs could be seen. The work to recover the body, still underway, was joined by members of the special mountain rescue corps (GREIM) and underwater rescue corps (GEAS) of the Civil Guard, who had to suspend the extraction of the body as night fell.

The local newspaper Information points out that the deceased could be a 25-year-old Moroccan waiter whom his family has been searching for for more than a week, and that the chest in which someone supposedly tried to hide his remains belongs to a squatted home. However, investigators cannot corroborate this until the rescue of the body is completed, of which not even the sex is yet known, in order to identify it and perform an autopsy. Sources close to the investigation indicate that the area where the body was found is a common point of drug trafficking and consumption.

The ongoing investigation joins another that began on the 17th, when another call to 112 reported that there was a body in a rural area with difficult access from the La Moratella party, also in Villajoyosa. On this occasion, the displaced Civil Guard agents were able to identify the body of a 33-year-old Spanish man “with signs of violent etiology,” according to official sources. The case fell to the Homicide team of the Alicante Judicial Police, which informed the court. Given the multiple differences, both in location and in the circumstances of abandonment of the bodies, investigation sources do not believe, in principle, that both cases are connected.

Finally, on the same day the 17th, a citizen notice reported the disappearance of a 39-year-old man whose body was finally found around two in the morning the following day in the municipality of Rojales, south of the province of Alicante and almost a hundred kilometers away from the other two. The body was located by a patrol of the Almoradí Civil Guard outside a chalet in Ciudad Quesada, a huge urbanization inhabited mainly by foreign citizens. The general secretary of the Alicante Government Subdelegation, José Antonio Cuadros, confirmed that the deceased was of Lithuanian nationality, that he had several gunshot wounds and that he had a history of drug trafficking. Sources close to the case assure that the first indications seem to indicate that the victim was shot after attempting a robbery, that is, the theft of drugs from other drug traffickers.
