He was admitted to Georgetown University MedStar in Washington on Monday after developing a fever.

The 78-year-old former president was hospitalized this afternoon “for tests and monitoring,” Angel Urena, Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, said in a statement.

“He remains in good spirits and is deeply appreciative of the excellent care he is receiving,” Urena said.

It is worth mentioning that in the years following his departure from the White House, Clinton faced various health problems.

In 2004, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery after chest pain and shortness of breath. The following year he suffered a partial lung collapse. In 2010 he underwent another heart operation, when two stents were placed in a coronary artery.

In 2021, the former president was hospitalized for six days in California to treat an infection unrelated to COVID-19 while the pandemic was still raging.

A Clinton aide said she had a urinary tract infection that spread to her bloodstream, but she recovered and did not go into septic shock, a potentially life-threatening condition.

The same associate had clarified that Clinton was treated in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
