It’s a sign of hope. The founder and historic leader of the PKK, Abdullah Öcalan, wants to take part in a peace process together with the Turkish government. He said this on Saturday to the two representatives of the pro-Kurdish party DEM, Pervin Buldan and Sirri Süreyya Önder, when they met him on the prison island of Imrali. Öcalan has been held prisoner on Imrali in largely isolation since 1999. He was initially sentenced to death in 1999, but the sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment.
