Bolsonaro is progressing well after shoulder surgery, says hospital

DF Star states that the former president began motor rehabilitation; he remains hospitalized to control postoperative pain

The former president (PL) is progressing well after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder, carried out on Friday morning (May 1, 2026). In a note, the hospital in Brasília stated, this Saturday (May 2), that he will remain hospitalized to control post-operative pain, under clinical observation. Read (PDF-118kB).

There is still no forecast for medical discharge. The analgesic treatment and thrombosis prevention measures will continue, and the motor rehabilitation of the operated shoulder should last as long as the former president is hospitalized.

The intervention was on the right shoulder (rotator cuff). The pain, according to the medical team, was due to pain that occurred on January 6, when Bolsonaro was in a cell at the Federal Police Superintendence. The former president has been under house arrest since March 24.

Bolsonaro was after authorization from the Minister of . Bolsonaro’s defense asked on April 21 that the STF surgery on the right shoulder.
