The longest promenade in the Algarve is 6 km long, but this does not mean that the walk has a high level of difficulty. The route is not circular, so you will have to travel a total of 12 km if you want to start and end the route at the same point. Although the promenade does not have large differences in level, there are several rest areas to take a break, knowing that nearby you can also cool off in the waters of the Algarve sea.
When you arrive at Praia dos Três Irmãos, in Portimão, you will come across some wooden planks that form the so-called Passadiço de Alvor. What you probably don’t know is that this extends to the pier at Praia de Alvor, a distance of around 6 km. On one side the sea, on the other the estuary, along the walk along the longest walkway in the Algarve you will also pass alongside dunes and small swamps.
According to the blog, any time of year is recommended to walk along this promenade, considering that in the hottest periods there is always the sea nearby to alleviate the effect of high temperatures. In any case, the lack of shadows requires you to take precautions in time, bringing a hat and bottle of water.
If you choose to visit this promenade at the end of the day, you will be able to enjoy the sunset over the Ria de Alvor. It should be noted, however, that the ria’s ecosystem is very fragile, so the best way to preserve it is to avoid leaving the area outlined by the walkway.
