A man who witnessed Sunday’s plane crash in Muan, South Korea, said he was “devastated” by the disaster, describing the crash scene to Reuters.
Im Young Hak, owner of a seafood restaurant near the accident site, told Reuters that he saw “large dark smoke” and heard several explosions at around 9 am (local time) on Sunday (29).
Im Young first thought the noise was from an oil tanker accident as there are many oil tankers nearby, Reuters reported.
When he realized it was a plane that crashed, he thought wild geese could have caused the disaster.
“I feel devastated,” expressed Young Hak, according to Reuters.
“It happened right here, not far away. We feel bad about an accident happening on the other side of the globe, but it happened right here. It’s traumatic. I don’t know how long I’ll feel this way, but it won’t be for a short time — that much I know.”
Worst plane crash in decades
It is the worst, and the worst involving a South Korean airline in almost three decades, according to ministry data.
The twin-engine Boeing 737-800 was seen in video broadcast by local media skidding across the runway with no apparent landing gear before crashing into a wall in an explosion of flames and debris.
