Do fireworks still have a future?

When the countdown ends on the Rathausplatz in Vienna this year, there will be no rockets ringing in the turn of the year. Instead, a hundred-strong band will perform a new interpretation of the Danube Waltz – as a prelude to the Strauss year 2025, in which the composer would have turned 200 years old. The city deliberately foregoes the traditional fireworks display – like many other communities.
