Fluminense announced this Monday (30) the arrival of Joaquín Lavega, a 19-year-old striker who comes as the fourth reinforcement for the Brazilian club in 2025. A graduate of River Plate, the player had already been quoted by Vasco, but ended up signing with the tricolor.
With a contract until the end of 2029 and stints with the Uruguayan national team, what draws the most attention about the new hire is his performance in the 1×1, his speed and his history at the base of the national team. The only question remains in adapting to the level of Brazilian competitions, which are more competitive than the Uruguayan ones he is used to.
Playing for River for twelve years, Lavega competed in all children’s and training categories, making his professional debut in 2021, at 16 years old. “He is a fast left-handed striker, with a very high start and sustained speed”, said journalist Joaquín Pisa.
“He likes 1×1, he usually faces it with his good leg. He has a good shot with both legs, he scored several goals with his right leg. Despite his short height (1.72m), he has a good jump and a good header. His first goals in the first division were headers”, he added.
Since 2022, he has gained more space at the club, which led him to the national team in 2023. At that time, the Uruguayan team won the under-20 world cup and was runner-up in the under-20 South American Championship with Uruguay, even with Lavega out. of the final call-up, as he was younger and belonged to previous categories.
Last season, he established himself as a professional, taking over the top score with 11 goals, which adds up to almost 25% of the team’s total. In the championship, he was in the top 5 scorers, in addition to providing five assists and being essential in the fight against River’s relegation.
