Biden “grateful” for the police’s quick reaction to the New Orleans attack

Donald Trump was informed of the situation and makes a connection between the attack and the country’s crime rate, which he says is “at a level that no one has ever seen before”

President Joe Biden says he is “grateful for the quick and courageous response of local law enforcement, which prevented an even greater number of deaths and injuries,” after a this Wednesday morning.

“Since early this morning, I have been continually briefed by federal law enforcement and my homeland security team, including Secretary of Homeland Security Ali Mayorkas, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, the Homeland Security Advisor for White House Liz Sherwood-Randall and the Mayor of New Orleans about the horrific incident that occurred overnight,” Biden wrote.

“I have instructed my team to ensure that all resources are available while federal, state and local law enforcement works hard to get to the bottom of what happened as quickly as possible and to ensure that there are no further threats of any kind.”

At least ten people died and 35 were injured in the attack and the FBI is investigating possible associates of the suspect who may have been involved.

“I will continue to receive updates throughout the day and will have more to say as we have more information to share,” Joe Biden further wrote. “In the meantime, my heart goes out to the victims and their families who were simply trying to celebrate the holiday. There is no justification for any type of violence and we will not tolerate any attack on any community in our nation.”

Trump links crime rate

President-elect Donald Trump was briefed on the situation in New Orleans, a source familiar with the situation told CNN.

“Our hearts go out to all of the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the courageous officers of the New Orleans Police Department,” Trump wrote in a post on the social media site Truth. “The Trump administration will fully support the city of New Orleans as they investigate and recover from this act of pure evil!”

In the same publication, Trump took the opportunity to make a connection with the crime rate in the United States. “When I said that the criminals coming in are much worse than the criminals we have in our country, that statement was constantly refuted by Democrats and the fake news media, but it turned out to be true. The crime rate in our country is at a level no one has ever seen before.”

According to FBI quarterly data released in 2024, New Orleans has seen a decline in violent crimes. CNN was unable to confirm the suspect’s citizenship status.
