This Saturday, the Spanish chef will receive the highest civilian distinction in the United States, the Presidential Medal of Freedomfrom the hands of the outgoing president of the North American country, Joe Biden.
This recognition is given to people “who have done exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values or security of the United States, world peace or other important social, public or private efforts,” as recalled by the White House in an announcement made by the North American media.
Food aid revolution
José Andrés will be recognized for his work with his NGO World Central Kitchen which, according to the White House, “has revolutionized the way the food aid reaches communities affected by natural disasters and conflicts around the world.

José Andrés will be joined by others 18 personalities of politics and culture, like the footballer Lionel Messithe actors Michael J. Fox y Denzel Washingtonthe basketball player Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnsonthe singer Bonothe former Secretary of State Hillary Clintonthe financier George Sorosfashion designer Ralph Laurenthe editor of the trend magazine Vogue, Anna Wintour; the scientific communicator Bill Nyeor the conservationist Jane Goodall.
Two other prominent figures in American politics will receive a posthumous tribute: the former attorney general Robert F. Kennedy — brother of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, and assassinated like him — as well as the former Republican governor of Michigan George Romneyfather of former Senator Mitt Romney.
