Bolsonaro state deputy Tenente Coimbra (PL-SP) sent a letter to the state government asking that it be asked to provide explanations about a possible relationship between the dumping of sewage at sea and an outbreak of viruses in the country.

In the application, sent to the state’s Secretary of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics, Natália Resende, Coimbra mentions the admission by the recently privatized company itself that there was a sewage leak in Guarujá on January 2nd.

the possibility of causality cannot be ruled out without a careful investigation”, says the parliamentarian, who has an electoral base in Santos.

He asks the state government to order Sabesp to evaluate the environmental impacts of the spill and detail the measures adopted to prevent new episodes of this type.

The position shows that even deputies who are part of governor Tarcísio de Freitas’ base (Republicans) are not bothered by Sabesp’s actions in this case, whose privatization last year is considered one of the main actions of state management so far.

According to Coimbra, the leakage of waste by the company is “inadmissible”. He also criticizes the lack of information about the case.

“Answers are missing. Is the drinking water on the coast contaminated? Is it the sea water that is making bathers sick? What is being done to prevent more cases from happening? Sabesp also needs to explain about possible clandestine water connections and sewage runoff, which also harms marine fauna”, he states.
