According to the NWS office in Texas (south), temperatures remained warm on Saturday in this state, but a cold front is expected to arrive today
A cold snap from the Arctic has dropped temperatures in the central and northeastern United States and is expected to move south next week, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service (NWS).
The NWS warned on Saturday of the development of a winter storm in the central and Mid-Atlantic (northeast) regions by Monday, with “heavy snow” and “ice accumulations”.
The authority highlighted a greater impact in the central states of Kansas and Missouri and warned against the danger of traveling on the roads due to low visibility and snow accumulation.
The heaviest snowfall in a decade is expected in northern Kansas and Missouri, with accumulations of up to 15 inches (38 centimeters) of snow, the NWS said.
The northwest of the USA was not affected by the storm, even recording above-normal temperatures in California, although the rest of the country faces below-average temperatures for this time of year, especially the southeastern states.
In New York (northeast), authorities asked people to prepare for negative temperatures of minus 26 degrees Celsius, freezing winds and snowfall in northern areas, close to Canada, until tonight.
According to the NWS office in Texas (south), temperatures remained warm in this state on Saturday, but a cold front is expected to arrive today.
