Survey covers typical celebration products, such as condensed milk, rice, corn and wheat flour
The basket of typical June festival products became 4.62% cheaper in the 12 months ending in May 2026, according to a survey by Fipe (Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas) released this Wednesday (June 10, 2026). The study covers items traditionally consumed in celebrations of the period, such as condensed milk, candy, guava paste, grated coconut, wheat flour, rice, corn, apple, pumpkin, cassava, brandy and wine.
The reduction contrasts with the IPC-Fipe General Index, which accumulated an increase of 3.65% in the same period.
Rice showed the biggest reduction among the products analyzed, with a drop of 15.58% in the last 12 months. Apples registered a decline of 5.13%, while wheat flour saw a reduction of 3.12%. Condensed milk dropped 0.38%.
Some products, however, registered an increase in the period. Pumpkin increased by 31.41%, grated coconut increased by 6.48% and candy increased by 6.15%.
The items with the greatest weight in the basket calculation and which showed the most intense drops offset the increases recorded in other products typical of the festivities.
Guilherme Moreira, coordinator of IPC-Fipe, attributed the drop in the price of the basket to a process of normalization of food prices affected by climatic adversities in the previous year.
“In 2025, several foods still reflected the impacts of the climatic adversities recorded between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, which affected agricultural production and put pressure on prices. Over the last year, there was an accommodation of these values, especially in products such as rice, milk and derivatives. Therefore, even with some occasional increases in 2026, the aggregate result of the basket is a drop”, said Moreira.
