The initiative of, to interfere in the election of the City Council, being defeated in the process, weakened its ability to coordinate with the Legislature.

This is the opinion of councilors and people linked to the city hall, who do not rule out his departure from the position of Government Secretary.

Damião took over municipal management last Saturday (4), after Mayor Fuad Noman (PSD) took a leave of absence from his position for 15 days to take care of his health.

Damião, a two-term councilor, took over the coordination of the city hall with the councilors to try to secure the last-minute election of Bruno Miranda (PDT), government leader in the Chamber, against the candidacy of Juliano Lopes (Podemos).

The councilor, linked to Marcelo Aro (PP), secretary of the Civil House of the Zema (Novo) government, won the dispute by 23 votes to 18, and Damião in the process.

With the defeat, former City Hall Government Secretary Anselmo Domingos can return to his position. He is close to Lopes and left the role after trying to run a single candidacy for the Legislative Board of Directors.

The final decision, however, rests with Fuad, and there is no rush for a definition in municipal management, given the mayor’s health situation and the councilors’ recess.

The period without sessions in the Chamber is also seen as a possibility of a cooling of spirits in the House.

“We need to disarm our spirit and think about the city,” councilor Bruno Miranda told the column.

The mayor is 77 years old, but remains hospitalized in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) to treat pneumonia resulting from cancer treatment.
