The Prime Minister of Denmark reinforces that “Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders”, on the day that Donald Trump’s son is visiting the Arctic island, an autonomous territory of Denmark coveted by the president-elect of the United States.
The Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, defended this Tuesday that “Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders”, following Donald Trump’s suggestion to annex that territory to the United States.
“Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders”, said the Danish head of government, on the day that the son of the President-elect of the United States is visiting the Arctic island.

Trump wants to make “Greenland great again”
Donald Trump Jr. This Tuesday, he began a private visit to Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark coveted by his father and which seeks to gain sovereignty, but remains financially dependent on Copenhagen.
“Greenland is an incredible place and its people, if and when they become part of our nation, will benefit greatly (…) Making Greenland great again,” Donald Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social on Monday. fair.
Questioned by Greenlandic public television and KNR radio when he got off the plane, Donald Trump Jr. said he was there as a tourist and had not planned any official meetings.
The local press stated that the President’s son will stay in the region for a few hours.
“This trip is probably just what Trump Jr. himself says, to make video content,” said Ulrik Pram Gad, a Greenland expert at the Danish Institute of International Studies.
An old desire
The autonomous Danish territory is attractive for its natural resources – although oil prospecting and uranium exploration are prohibited there – and for its geostrategic importance, as the United States already has a military base there.
“What’s worrying is the way Trump [pai] talks about international relations and the situation could get worse if he starts ‘grabbing countries'”, commented Pram Gad.
This is not the first time that the North American billionaire has been interested in Greenland, having even admitted, in his first term, trying to acquire that territory.
“We are not for sale and never will be”
“Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and never will be,” wrote the head of the Greenland Government, Mute Egede, on the social network Facebook, before Christmas, after a first suggestion of annexation.
