Why do the windows actually fog up?
In fact, this is a common physical phenomenon. Windows are fogged by excessive condensation of water vapor in the air. Normally, the air in a room can only take in a given amount of moisture. When it exceeds the dew point, the condensed moisture precipitates in the coldest places and turns into dew, or even running water droplets. The higher the humidity in the interior, the more the windows are dewed, and warmer air absorbs more moisture than cold air.
What are the risks of window misting?
If you do not pay close attention to fogging windows and do not solve this problem, you could face not only damaged window frames, but also windowsills, walls, wallpaper, furniture and floors.
Unwanted mold often appears in homes due to excessive humidity, which is also the cause of many health problems such as skin problems, various types of allergic reactions, asthma and bronchitis. So what to do and how to effectively prevent fogging of windows?
Regular and proper ventilation
First of all, ventilate your home regularly, it’s one of the easiest and most effective things you can do. However, don’t think that just opening the vent is enough, it won’t help much with the window fogging problem. It is important to ventilate properly. Open the windows several times a day, fully and for at least 10 to 15 minutes. If the layout of the apartment allows it, make a draft. Thanks to this, there will be a quick exchange of air, when the inner sides of the windows and the interior will not have time to cool down. Be sure to ventilate in the morning and also in the evening before you go to sleep. And what will help you absorb excess moisture at home?
Grandmothers used ordinary salt
Following the pattern of our grandmothers, you can make your own moisture absorber at home. As they say, it’s “for a mouthful”, and it’s also effective. Just pour table salt into the bowls and place them on the windowsill by each window. Salt can effectively absorb excess moisture.
This method is still popular today and has its permanent supporters even among the younger generations. You can also replace salt with cat litter or silica gel. Crushed chalk or dry rice will do a similar service for you.
Glycerin and pure alcohol

Apply the finished mixture to clean and dry windows using a soft cloth and finally polish them consistently, preferably with a deerskin. Both pure alcohol and glycerin are available for purchase not only in drugstores, but also in pharmacies.
Toothpaste
In the same way, you can delay the fogging of the windows with toothpaste. Apply it to the glasses and properly polish it with a cloth. It may take a while, but you will not only have a beautifully clean and clear window, but for some time it will also be fog-free.
