He began his volunteer firefighter activity as an aspirant in the highlighted section of the Santarém Volunteer Firefighters in Alcanede, in July 1987. He is currently Commander of the Carcavelos and São Domingos de Rana Volunteer Fire Department, having received several commendations and decorations.
