Poisoned cake: suspected father-in-law is exhumed after death from food poisoning

The Civil Police of Rio Grande do Sul obtained authorization from the Court to exhume the body of a father-in-law who had been poisoned after eating a cake with arsenicin Torres (RS), the episode took place at Christmas 2024.

As the investigations advanced, the General Institute of Expertise (IGP) exhumed the body of Paulo Luiz dos Anjos, at the São Vicente Cemetery, in Canoas, who was the father-in-law of the suspect, Deise Moura. Paulo Luiz died in September last year due to alleged food poisoning.

Deise Moura, the police found signs of the substance arsenic in the urine and stomach of the victims who died after eating the afternoon coffee cake.

The forensic technical team conducted the procedure, which consisted of collecting biological samples for laboratory analysis. The objective is to check the presence of arsenic and other toxic substances that may have contributed to the death.

After collecting the genetic material, the body was returned to the tomb.
