Former president asked for his passport to be returned to travel; Moraes told him to present the event invitation
The former president (PL) used his social media profiles to share some images of his stay in Mambucaba, in Angra dos Reis (RJ). On Saturday (10.Jan.2025), a video of a meeting with supporters. This Saturday (11 January), another video says the following: “From Mambucaba to Washington”.
When speaking of Washington, Bolsonaro refers to the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump (Republican), scheduled for January 20 in the North American capital. He told the Federal Supreme Court that he was invited to the ceremony and requested that he be allowed to leave the country.
In response, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, asked the former president’s defense to present an official document that proves that he was in fact invited by Trump to the inauguration. Read the decision (PDF – 126 kB).
According to Moraes, when requesting the release of the passport, Bolsonaro’s defense did not present elements that prove the reason for the trip abroad. “Before analysis [do mérito da solicitação], there is a need for additional evidence, as the request did not come properly accompanied with the necessary documents”says the minister.
