Randolfe Rodrigues declares that it is “the duty of every democrat to condemn any dictatorship” after chavista assumes 3rd term
The leader of the Government in Congress, senator (PT-AP), called the inauguration of the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro (United Socialist Party of Venezuela, left), this Friday (10.Jan.2025) “illegitimate and false”. The Chavista took office for a 3rd term. The election was marred by accusations of fraud.
On his profile on X (formerly Twitter), the congressman declared that “it is the duty of every democrat, wherever he is, to condemn any dictatorship”it is “right or left”.
Chavista’s victory was widely contested by the international community, which raised accusations of fraud. The European Union and 8 countries refused to recognize Maduro’s re-election.
Brazil, Colombia and Mexico requested that the Venezuelan government publish the ballots with the results. The request even caused diplomatic tension between Brasília and Caracas.
Maduro stated that representatives from 125 countries attended the inauguration. Lula sent Brazil’s ambassador to Caracas, Glivânia Maria de Oliveira, to represent him at the ceremony.
CORINA PROTESTS AND RETENTION
Thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets to against Maduro on Thursday (9.Jan). The events were held in Caracas, Mérida and Chacao.
Images published on X (formerly Twitter) show citizens with Venezuelan flags and shouting words like “freedom” e “out dictator” –in reference to Maduro. They also showed support for Edmundo González and displayed posters written “Edmund president”.
During the events, the opposition leader, Maria Corina, was by security forces.
