The leader of the Venezuelan opposition, María Corina Machado, made a statement stating that Nicolás Maduro completed a coup d’état for a third term this Friday (10) without proving victory in the July 2024 elections.
This was Machado’s first statement after her one on Thursday (9), when she was approached by police officers while leaving a demonstration in Caracas.
Machado, who had already declared that Edmundo González was the true winner of the elections, based on data from the voting records, criticized Maduro for relying on authoritarian regimes, such as those in Cuba and Nicaragua, to remain in power.

The opponent revealed that she was taken to an unknown location, but later released after international pressure on the Maduro regime.
Machado believes that the repercussions of his detention forced the government to recognize its mistake, stating that international pressure on the regime will increase: “We all know that, from today onwards, the pressure will increase even more, until Maduro understands that this is over”
Finally, the opposition leader appealed to the population to continue demonstrating against Maduro, stating that freedom is close. “Venezuelan, Maduro will not be able to govern by force a Venezuela that has decided to be free,” he stated.
