The populist Zoran Milanovic was re-elected this Sunday as president of Croatia with 72.5% of the votes, according to the count of 45% of the ballots, the electoral commission reported, compared to 27.4% for his rival, Dragan Primorac. which was supported by the conservative HDZ party, in the Government.
The victory of Milanovic, candidate of the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) and nine smaller parties of the left and center, is the most resounding achieved in a presidential election since Croatia gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.
