Deep beneath our feet lies a world that is completely inaccessible to us directly. The Earth’s interior cannot be reached even in the thinnest parts of the crust; the deepest drillings barely scratch the surface of our planet. But there are indirect ways to gather information about what’s going on in the Earth’s mantle, between the lithosphere and the Earth’s core.
