Water levels in the city of Peruíbe fell by around 70%, according to information released this Monday (13 January 2025) by . This reduced the total number of homeless people in the city from 463 to 251.
Of the 3 humanitarian shelters set up, 1 of them was deactivated on Sunday (12 January). The removal of people from risk areas began on Wednesday (8 January) due to the floods. More families were affected by the bad weather, but chose not to go to shelters. For these, the municipality distributed basic food baskets.
Rescue
To date, around 100 animals have been rescued, including a horse found on the roof of a residence in the Nova Peruíbe neighborhood. In addition to these, another 100 animals were assisted directly in their homes, with water and food.
As the water drains, employees from the local energy company make repairs and urban cleaning teams work on the streets.
On Thursday (January 9), the city hall declared an emergency situation, with approval by the government of São Paulo. Among the most affected neighborhoods in Peruíbe are Caraminguava, Ribamar, Caraguava and Jardim das Flores.
