The () campaign’s legal team invested even more in this year’s campaign and decided to create a social media monitoring center. The objective is to monitor all episodes of disinformation in real time and take action.
Unlike previous years, the focus now is on intelligent and strategic monitoring with a focus on the fake news ecosystem.
The party’s strategy is an example of how campaigns are willing to further judicialize elections.
The actions of the two main presidential pre-campaigns have already reached historic records. In less than six months, PT and , of , sued the (Superior Electoral Court) 73 times – an average of two actions per day.
The difference compared to previous elections is stark. In June 2022, Lula’s campaigns had filed only 11 representations with the Electoral Court.
The number of actions is six times greater than that registered in the last election. And the campaign hasn’t even officially started. The PT alone filed 35 representations, almost the total filed throughout the country. There were 41 that year.
In comparison with the 2018 elections, the PT and the then PSL had activated the electoral court even less during this period of the year: only five times.
Almost all representations filed so far were for early electoral propaganda. But it also entered the account.
The assessment of lawyers and court ministers is that the election is increasingly polarized and tempers are more heated.
and must coordinate the legal core of the campaign, Ângelo Ferraro, says that the increase is due to attacks on networks, in addition to the use of Artificial Intelligence.
“The office has been monitoring, in real time, the digital space, in order to combat any irregularities in the election. Therefore, there was a proportional increase in actions, which is in line with the electoral reality”, he told the Panel.
This year, the war of actions began in , when other opposing campaigns contested the Acadêmicos de Niterói parade.
All actions go to the office of minister Estela Aranha, current TSE propaganda judge. In neither case was there a decision. The cases are paralyzed in court.
The fear is that the start of the campaign will generate another flood of electoral actions, especially with the more frequent use of AI.
Until then, the president of the TSE, , must appoint another minister to act as a propaganda judge alongside Aranha.
