The Hungarian secret service in the case of sanctions against the head of the cabinet of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Antal Rogán turned to the partner authorities of the United States. The chairman of the committee, Zoltán Sas from the opposition Jobbik party, said this to the telex.hu server on Tuesday after the meeting of the Security Committee of the Hungarian Parliament, the TASR correspondent in Budapest reports.

Rogán’s name appeared on the list of persons to be sanctioned by the US Treasury. In his case, it happened because of alleged corruption.

According to Sas, at the meeting of the committee, among other things, it was heard that persons are put on the so-called sanctions list according to the legal system of the United Stateswhile this also happened in Rogán’s case. Therefore, the Hungarian authorities do not question the legality of such a step.

The chairman of the committee added that the Hungarian side asked its American partner to hand over the informationwhich should be the basis for Washington’s decision, but the American side was unable to transmit such information. According to Sas, the members of the committee were informed about this fact.

The Hungarian secret services drew attention to the process, which has several actors, and which “can be identified even in the international space”. These actors are trying to discredit American-Hungarian relations and to complicate their effectiveness even before the new US administration takes officesaid Sas, who did not specify further details citing state secrets.

Rogán, who is considered the closest associate of Prime Minister Viktor Orbánaccording to the notification of the US Department of Finance, was included on the said list for corruption. His activity is “a sign of a wider atmosphere of impunity in Hungary, where oligarchs and undemocratic actors have captured key elements of the state”US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement.

“Rogán organized plans aimed at controlling several strategic sectors of the Hungarian economy and to divert revenues from these industries to themselves and reward loyal members of their political party,” the US Treasury Department said in a statement.

According to the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó’s personal revenge against ex-ambassador David Pressmanwho was sent to Budapest by the Biden administration, but after the defeat of the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the November American elections, he “infamously left” Hungary.
