The Minister of Internal Administration will be heard this Wednesday in the parliamentary committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees about the death of Odair Moniz, police action in Martim Moniz and the process of implementing the ‘bodycams’.

Margarida Blasco’s hearing was requested by PS, Bloco de Esquerda, Livre, PCP and Chega.

At the request of Livre, Margarida Blasco will respond to deputies about the death of Odair Monizwho was shot by a PSP agent in the early hours of October 21, in Cova da Moura, Amadora. At this moment, they are three investigations are underway – at the Public Ministry, the General Inspectorate of Internal Administration and the PSP.

The PS, PCP, Bloco de Esquerda and Livre want clarification on the police operation carried out by the PSP on December 19th on Rua do Benformoso, in Martim Monizin Lisbon. This operation, in which dozens of immigrants were placed against the wall, with their hands up, to be searched, resulted in several criticisms and a demonstration that took place on Saturday between Alameda and Martim Moniz.

On Chega’s side, the parliamentary group wants answers about measures to prevent violence against police officers and wants to know what stage the process of implementing video cameras in police uniforms is at (known as ‘bodycams’).

In November last year, Margarida Blasco announced the creation of a working group to “overcome the impasse” in the public competition for ‘bodycams’ for PSP and GNR, which has already been challenged twice.
