The sanctions hit individuals and legal entities operating in the Russian defense industry and energy sector.
The United States announced on Wednesday that it has imposed new sanctions on more than 150 entities supporting Russia in its military campaign. The aim is allegedly to fight against his evasion of existing sanctions. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the Reuters and AFP agencies.
With this step, the United States has targeted individuals and legal entities “involved in the Russian defense industry and supporting its military-industrial base,” declared outgoing US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The sanctions concern more than 150 entities, including Russian banks and companies operating in the Russian energy sector. The United States has already imposed sanctions on some of them in the past.
The goal is to limit Russia’s ability to wage war and avoid further sanctions
“Our goal with these steps is to make it clear to financial institutions and companies that doing business with Russia… puts (them) equally at risk of incurring sanctions,” said an anonymous US government official, Reuters writes.
These measures are intended to limit Russia’s ability to wage war and avoid further sanctions, which the United States says was aided by entities from China.
The decision comes in the last days of the administration of US President Joe Biden, who will be officially replaced by Donald Trump on January 20. He promised several times that he would quickly end the conflict in Ukraine. The Biden administration has repeatedly imposed sanctions on Moscow precisely because of its attack on Kiev.
