By court decision, a 22-year-old girl will be compulsorily hospitalized after, according to the police, killing her 4-year-old sister inside her home. The case occurred last Monday (13) in Mafra (SC), around 300 kilometers from Florianópolis.
The possibility considered is that the suspect suffered a psychotic break before attacking his sister while she was sleeping.

The girl Soraia Schmidt, aged 4, was stabbed and was rescued by her parents, but died while receiving care. The suspect was locked in one of the rooms of the property where the crime occurred and was only arrested after a long negotiation that ended with immobilization with a non-lethal weapon.
The decision for hospitalization was taken by the Court of Justice of Santa Catarina during a custody hearing held this Tuesday (14) at the Mafra Forum.
In a note, the Court of Justice of Santa Catarina stated that the measure must be maintained until a new medical report is issued confirming that it no longer poses a risk to society. The suspicion is that she suffered a psychotic break before attacking her sister while she slept.
The Court of Justice of Santa Catarina guaranteed that other information in the process will be processed under judicial secrecy.
According to police chief Eduardo Borges, in the days before the crime, the suspect was “isolating herself in her room”.
