Francis Kurkdjian is a world-famous perfumer. He began his career in 1995, creating “Le Mâle” for Jean Paul Gaultier, which became one of the best-selling fragrances in the world. Additionally, he has developed iconic perfumes that have been awarded in numerous competitions for brands such as Guerlain, Dior, Armani, Narciso Rodriguez, Elizabeth Arden, Acqua di Parma, Versace, Ferragamo, Lanvin, Van Cleef & Arpels, Elie Saab and Burberry. He was the first master perfumer to open his own studio, Maison Francis Kurkdjian, in 2001. He worked on perfumes for Air France for over two years. The fragrance was given an exceptionally “aviation” name. It is the flight number AF001, under which the legendary Concord flew between New York and Paris in the late 1970s. A deliberate reference to the glory days of air travel and the number 001 is intended to remind travelers of their first flight.

– I am very proud that I could compose the first corporate interior fragrance for Air France. My inspiration was the reflection of a ray of sunlight reflecting on the wing of an airplane, which inspired me to create this light, fresh and soothing fragrance – said Francis Kurkdjian.

Air France will use the new perfume in its airport lounges at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport so that guests can enjoy it as soon as they enter. Starting January 15, 2025, AF001 will greet La Première First Class travelers who use the dedicated lounge, lobby and private suites at CDG Airport. In addition, the fragrance will be distributed in lounges located in terminals 2F, 2G and 2E (lounges in halls L and M). Subsequently, the new Air France logo will be rolled out to the airline’s other dedicated business lounges in Paris, and will then appear in lounges at other airports around the world.

– We want Air France travel to stimulate all five senses. Our customers can now enjoy the sophisticated design of airport lounges and cabins, taste the refined menu prepared by French chefs, travel in soft-touch seats while listening to a diverse playlist from the on-board entertainment system. Now we have also taken care of the sense of smell, adding scent to the range of Air France travel experiences – says Fabien Pelous, Vice President of Customer Service at Air France.
