Haddad should run in the 2026 election, defends PT leader – 12/16/2025 – Brasília Hoje

The leader of na, (RJ), stated that he cannot see the Minister of Finance, (PT), out of the 2026 electoral dispute. He told journalists, this Tuesday (16), that the role of the PT member must be defined by the president (PT).

Haddad will leave the government by the end of February. Despite appeals from PT leaders, he has insisted that he does not intend to run for any elected office. Your idea would be to coordinate.

“We can’t afford not to have Haddad running in the electoral process. Because we’re going to have to go with all our strength. And Haddad is one of the greatest strengths we have. […] I can’t see Minister Haddad not contesting the electoral process. He is important for the project, for Lula, for democracy, because we know that there can be no setback in these next four years”, said Lindbergh.

The PT leader did not ignore Haddad’s resistance to running and acknowledged that the campaign “is a difficult task”, but said that the decision will be taken later and based on dialogue, indicating that the minister must be convinced.

“Of course, there’s always what he prefers, what you prefer. But, certainly, he is a very important electoral piece for us”, he added.

Lindbergh stated that Haddad is “an extraordinary picture” and should be used. “Lula, certainly, must have a plan in his head. The São Paulo election is a very important election. We will have to compete there with a strong name.”

The final date for candidates to leave their positions to contest the election is April, according to electoral law, but Haddad has already signaled that he will leave the Treasury before that. For the place, the executive secretary, Dario Durigan, as
