Cable car accident in Spain leaves at least 17 serious injuries

Nine of the injured are in “very serious” condition

At least 17 people were seriously injured in an accident that occurred this Saturday in a cable car at the Astún ski resort, according to a provisional report from the Aragon authorities.

According to information provided by the Europapress agency, nine of the injured are in “very serious” condition.

The alert was given around noon local time (11am in Portugal), and air resources from the Government of Aragon – two medical helicopters – and the Autonomous Community of Navarra – a medical plane and another rescue helicopter were sent to the area – , as well as firefighters, including more than a dozen ambulances, as well as a group of psychologists.

Hospitals in the region are on alert for the arrival of the injured.

The most seriously injured is a woman who is being transferred by helicopter to the Miguel Servet Hospital in Zaragoza.
