The Algarve, with more than 150 kilometers of coastline, is one of the most prestigious destinations in the world, offering a wide range of options, whether for vacation or retirement. In this context, a beach in the Algarve measuring around five kilometers was highlighted by Americans as the best in the world in 2024, according to Tripadvisor.
“The southernmost region of Portugal, the Algarve, is dotted with fishing villages that have been transformed into characterful tourist towns, with steep cliffs, hidden caves and dozens of stunning sandy beaches. So it’s no surprise that one of these dreamy stretches of coastline was recently named the best in the world by , as part of its annual Travelers’ Choice Awards,” says the publication from Travel+Leisure.
Falésia Beach was chosen as the best in the world and, according to the same source: “it is located between the cities of Albufeira and Vilamoura, in the central part of the Algarve coast, where tall pine trees are located on top of ocher cliffs that descend further. 40 meters to a vast expanse of golden sands bathed by the blue waters of the Atlantic”.
“Sunbathe on the vast coastline, swim or body surf in the waves, or stroll along the scenic cliff-top trail and enjoy the incredible views,” recommends Tripadvisor, which also highlights the fact that the beach has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag for water quality, safety, cleanliness and sustainable management.
A Travel+Leisure highlights that: “although the beach is easily accessible by car or public transport from Albufeira, tourists can also enjoy it if they stay in one of the resorts located on top of the cliffs. Pine Cliffs, for example, is part of Mariott’s Luxury Collection and offers five-star amenities, including a golf course and spectacular views of Falésia Beach. One of the resort’s restaurants, Maré at Pine Cliffs, is directly on the beach and is a popular spot for lunch and dinner. The Epic Sana Resort is another luxury option overlooking the eastern end of the beach.”
Two other European beaches occupy the top spots on Tripadvisor’s list of the best beaches in the world. Spiaggia dei Conigli on the Italian island of Lampedusa was ranked second for its stunning turquoise waters and white sand. “It is a quiet beach, ideal for relaxing, sunbathing and swimming. There’s plenty of marine life to explore, and you might even spot some wildlife off the coast,” says Tripadvisor.
The bronze medal goes to Praia da Concha, in San Sebastián, Spain, also considered one of the most beautiful urban beaches in the world. Thanks to its serene bay location and surrounding urban environment, it’s a favorite spot for families and those looking for a wide range of water activities and amenities, as well as stunning sea and city views.
