Turkey warned of the risk of escalation after the drone attack on its ship

A drone attack on a Turkish cargo ship off the coast of the Black Sea provoked a sharp reaction from Ankara. Turkey warns of a wider conflict.

Turkey warned on Friday of “uncontrolled escalation” in the Black Sea region following Thursday’s drone attack on a Turkish cargo ship. TASR writes about it according to an AFP report.

“We once again warn all parties involved: it is necessary to prevent any action that could lead to an uncontrolled escalation of the conflict,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Drone attack on ship

The Ukrainian navy on Friday accused Russia of a drone attack on a Turkish cargo ship that sailed from the southern Ukrainian port city of Odesa. A fire then broke out on the ship.

Turkish media subsequently reported that three Turkish cargo ships were targeted by a drone attack in the Black Sea off the northern coast of Turkey on Thursday evening. However, there were no casualties in the incident.

Warning from Turkey

“We have communicated to the parties concerned our concerns regarding the risks and threats posed to our region by the recent escalation of the conflict in the Black Sea, as well as our warnings about the potential negative consequences for our country,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
