The do should speed up the negotiations around the , assess members of the and , who see their bargaining power crumbling if the Tucana leadership takes too long to make a decision on the fate of the party.

Today, the PSDB has three names at the head of state governments: , in Rio Grande do Sul; , in Mato Grosso do Sul, and , in Pernambuco.

Pernambuco. She has been negotiating a move to another party for some time. The PSD, from , should be the governor’s destination — there is an expectation that Raquel will command the party’s state directory.

Under reservation, a member of the PSD assessed that the PSDB should accelerate decision-making on its political future while it still has the three governors as members. The merger with Kassab’s own party and the MDB is among the options of the tucanos, who are also talking to Solidariedade and Podemos.

The measure is studied in environment (or performance), created to prove the .

The view is similar among emedebistas, who consider that the PSDB needs to negotiate now at the risk of losing its power to influence the direction of the merger with the possible departure of the governors.

To allies, Raquel signaled her intention to decide her next steps between the end of January and the beginning of February. With this, the toucans would have around two weeks to speed up the negotiations, according to estimates from PSD members.

The other governors must also make the political calculation of party migration soon for a pragmatic reason: the 2026 elections. Talks to create a ticket should begin to gain momentum this year, and any delay could harm the composition — if allies exchange party, for example.

President of the PSDB in Minas Gerais, federal deputy Paulo Abi-Ackel states that discussions around the possibility of a merger should accelerate now in February. “We have been provoked by the PSD, also by the MDB and other parties. The conversations should gain more consistency in February, when there are more people in Brasília”, he assesses.

He says that for many tucanos, including the founders, the scenario of the party losing strength with the merger is uncomfortable. “On the other hand, we are facing an issue that I interpret as something bigger, which is trying to take Brazil out of this system of polarization between extremes and create a more robust center force”, he states.

Behind the scenes, tucana leaders claim that an individual departure by governors could devalue them. They also say that there are already alternatives for the party after Raquel’s departure, with conversations that would involve former federal deputy Marília Arraes (Solidariedade) and the president of Alepe (Legislative Assembly of the State of Pernambuco), Álvaro Porto, from PSDB.
