In recent years, Rio and São Paulo have had two resounding executions. That of councilor Marielle Franco, in 2018, and that of Vinícius Gritzbach, at Guarulhos airport, last November.
Around 20 people are arrested for some type of involvement in these attacks.
The list is curious: it lacks criminals dedicated exclusively to crime and there is an abundance of police or former police officers.
Marielle’s killer and her driver were former Rio Military Police sergeants.
In Gritzbach’s case, the promiscuity was greater. An active police officer is suspected of having fired the shots. Another 14 worked illegal (and tolerated) odd jobs escorting the businessman, who had business with the PCC and collaborated with the Public Ministry. In this batch, at least five PMs were in the corporation’s elite troops. (Marielle’s killer had served in a similar unit in Rio.)
If the criminals had a union, they would stage a protest, denouncing these police officers for unfair competition and illegal activity.
In time: the people in charge of Marielle’s death would be the Brazão brothers, people from upstairs.
