A new storm is coming that could influence the weather in Portugal in the coming days. It’s called Éowyn and it will particularly affect the British Isles.
The storm is already considered the worst of the century in Ireland. In the country, a red wind alert was issued and is in effect until Friday afternoon. Wind gusts can exceed 130 km/h.
Met Éireann, the Irish weather service, warned in a statement about “life-threatening” conditions caused by the storm. Éowyn.
All schools and daycare centers are scheduled to close on Friday. Travel was discouraged.
Around here, the Azores are expected to be affected by storm Éowyn this Thursday. Strong winds and waves that can reach 10 meters are expected.
Bad weather warnings return on Friday across the entire Portuguese territory
Several districts of the continent and the archipelagos of Madeira and Azores I was the estar under yellow warning on Friday and Saturday due to the forecast of heavy rain and sea waves.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere () placed with yellow warning the districts of Porto, Aveiro, Viana do Castelo and Braga between 18:00 on Friday and 00:00 on Saturday due to rain.
IPMA also issued yellow warning for the districts of Lisbon and Leiria due to maritime unrest until 12pm today and again between 6pm Friday and 6pm Saturday.
Also Due to the state of the sea, the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Faro, Setúbal, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will be in yellow between 6pm on Friday and 6pm on Saturday, the forecast indicates waves from the northwest with four to five meters.
Also the north coast of Madeira Island and Porto Santo are under yellow warning until 3pm today because of the sea unrestforecasting waves from the west/northwest of four to five meters.
IPMA placed the western group (Flores and Corvo) also with yellow warning due to swell between 18:00 today (19:00 in Lisbon) and 00:00 on Friday (01:00 in Lisbon).
The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
