Bolsonaro’s former minister reacted to the US president’s statements that it is Brazil that needs the USA, not the other way around
The senator (PP-PI), one of the main opponents of the (PT) government, criticized the US president, Donald Trump (Republican Party), that the United States does not need Brazil.
The former minister of the Civil House of (PL) declared on Wednesday (22 January 2025) on his profile on X (formerly Twitter) that Brazil should not adopt a subservient stance towards the North American country.
“It cannot be revered all the time. Brazil is much bigger than the paltry response he gave to journalist Raquel Krähenbühl despising Brazil. The more servile we appear, the less respected we will be,” Ciro Nogueira.
Ciro Nogueira’s reaction is a response to Trump’s statements made on Monday (Jan 20) shortly after his inauguration ceremony as President of the United States. Asked about relations with Brazil and Latin America, the republican replied that his country does not need Brazil, but that the relationship with the Lula government “It must be great.”
“They need us more than we need them. We don’t need them. Everyone needs us”said the North American president.
There is an expectation that the Trump administration will return to taxing Brazilian products and curtail the Brics’ intentions of creating its own currency to trade without the dollar.
Earlier on Monday (Jan 20), Lula had announced the inauguration of the 47th North American president. In his profile on X, the PT member stated that the USA and Brazil have “strong ties” in areas such as commerce, science, education and culture and which expects “continue to advance in these and other partnerships”.
“I wish President Trump a successful term in office, one that contributes to the prosperity and well-being of the people of the United States and a more just and peaceful world,” he stated.
During a speech at a ministerial meeting on Monday (20 January), the Brazilian president said he hoped that the Trump government would be “profitable” and that the country continues to be Brazil’s historic partner.
“There are people who say that Trump’s election could cause problems in the world’s democracies. Trump was elected to govern the USA and I, as president of Brazil, hope that he will manage fruitfully for the North American people to improve, for the North Americans to continue to be Brazil’s historic partner”, declared.
